This paper aims at showing the importance of the germanic carreer of Noverre, through three longer stays he made at three different places of the « Holy Roman Empire » : he spent three years in Berlin at the royal court of Prussia as a young, but already experienced dancer, then seven years in Stuttgart at the court of Wurtemberg as a famous choregrapher and again seven years in Vienna as « Maître de ballet » of the prestigious imperial House . The paper focuses on the pragmatic aspects of these stays and their broader context, but also on their influence on the theoretical reflections Noverre then developped for the reform of ballet.
